Illegal Parking
Unfortunately there are some selfish and uncaring individuals who park their vehicles illegally often on pavements. The Parish Council actively discourages this not only because it contravenes traffic regulations but more importantly on safety grounds.
Blocked sight lines onto major roads (especially the A35) can cause serious accidents. Illegal parking can prevent emergency vehicles (fire engines and ambulances) from accessing fires or seriously ill / injured persons.
There have even been cases of rubbish/recycling collection vehicles not being able to carry out their collections.
NB The owner of any vehicle that has to be removed by the emergency services will be fully liable for any consequences and also any damage caused to their vehicle during the removal. They may also be subject to a fine.
Illegal parking of HGV on school drop off parking spaces near A35 road junction. Summer 2024
We have all suffered from an HGV owned by local firm Ashley Wood being parked overnight and for long periods. This seriously obstructs a narrow part of the B road, forces other large vehicles onto the weak river bank and has sometimes prevented parents parking to drop off or collect their children from the nearby school.
Unfortunately, they have ignored polite requests to move it and therefore Dorset Police, Dorset Highways / Parking Services have been brought in. The latter agency has also contacted the DVLA as as part of the HGV licencing requirement is to park off the road . We are saddened that a local firm should do this in our village - we can only hope that they do not do this again.
